Summary: | An elaborate work, published in conjunction with an extensive exhibition of Impressionist art. It differs from most catalogues of large retrospectives by focusing on the Impressionist movement itself, its origins, its new subjects and techniques, and the interrelations among the artists themselves, rather than on the work of individual artists. Following the text and color reproductions, the volume includes a chronology of works and a chronology of events occurring from 1859 through 1870. The catalogue of paintings in the exhibition includes biographical material on the painter, a description and provenance for each painting, a listing of exhibitions, a short critical text, and related bibliography.
