Large medical or research libraries where there is interest in human sexuality will find this book useful. Although a researcher could find similar information by searching relevant databases and using A Bibliography of Prostitution, ed. by V.L. Bullough et al. (1977), Kantha gathers the material in one place and includes citations from the years 1890 to 1989, thereby saving a scholar a lot of footwork. The bibliography is divided into ten chapters and has an author and subject index. It includes material from scientific journals, government documents, books, dissertations, and a few research reports. No popular material is covered, which is too bad, since this excludes Sydney Barrows's Mayflower Madam (1986), which contains a good description of the psychology of modern prostitutes and madams. Recommended if there is a need for this information.-N. Kupferberg, Montana State University
