Description
Summary:This book fills a growing need for current information on an increasingly important form of education. The continuing education departments of more than 300 colleges and universities now offer courses to more than 50,000 prisoners each year. The essays in this volume examine divergent views concerning the education of prisoners, and also discuss particular prison education programs and the problems and promise of prison teaching. Other essays explore higher education for women prisoners and how assessment and evaluation tools can improve efforts to deliver educational opportunities to those in confinement.
