This compilation consists of several loosely written essays on the Yugoslav experience with monetary policy. The title of the book can be deceiving--it deals mostly with the Yugoslav experience, not with the actual developments in other socialist countries. The argument advanced by the authors, that the Yugoslav economy under self-management in essence did not differ from the typical centrally planned economy, is inept. Although the Yugoslav economy shared some common features of the traditional centrally planned economy, it simply was not a planned economy. The authors offer very few theoretical insights, and their information is already well known. Nevertheless, the book can be useful for readers unfamiliar with the Yugoslav economy. Notes after each chapter as well as an overall bibliography. Upper-division undergraduates and general readers. Z. Suster; University of New Haven
