Christianson guides an executor through the legal processes needed to bring an estate to closure. Speaking to the first-time or one-time executor, he warns against accepting the chore before its "red flags" are well understood; e.g., wills often make unreasonable demands on executors and may not be legally correct. Thereafter, as the subtitle promises, he marches the user through the executive process: from "Preliminary Steps upon Death"; through opening the estate, inventorying it, handling claims against it and taxes, and managing the remainder; to accounting, distribution, and closure. In passing, he outlines the court filing process, provides fill-in checklists, and provides sample forms for opening an estate (both lists and forms may make a reference copy for photoduplication a good idea). Christianson takes note of difficult issues, particularly those requiring court approval, and concludes each chapter with a state-by-state roundup of law pertinent to its subjects. ~--George Hampton
