Dunlop has done a remarkable job of translating into English these technical contributions of French and Belgian professional and amateur astronomers. This set in the "Practical Astronomy Handbook" series lives up to that billing. It illustrates, in painstaking detail, the types of scientifically useful observations amateur astronomers and students can make with modest equipment. It is not meant to be read from cover to cover but used as a reference guide for various techniques, including mathematical techniques for data reduction. Each section is complete and self-contained. It is assumed that the reader has a working knowledge of the night sky and basic telescope usage. Despite the lack of an index or glossary, the detailed table of contents should be sufficient to guide readers to their topic of interest. For serious amateur astronomers and students with access to telescopes, this set is a necessity. Strongly recommended for college libraries and larger public libraries. Undergraduate through faculty.
