Summary:In view of the current liturgical renewal, this book assumes a dual importance. First, by interpreting the Lord's Supper solely in the light of the Old Testament backgrounds and the New Testament accounts, it restores to the Eucharist its original Biblical meaning unobscured by ambiguous or controversial ecclesiastical definitions. Second, by helping to find a common Biblical ground for eucharistic understanding, it opens the way for both an interpretation and a celebration of the Sacrament that would be ecumenically acceptable.
