Summary: | John R. Young was born 30 April 1837 at Kirtland, Ohio, the third son of Lorenzo Dow and Persis Goodell Young. The family were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He tells of persecutions, the migration of the Mormon pioneers, events in pioneer Utah, and missions to Hawaii and the British Isles for the Church. He married Albina Terry (d. 1913) in 1859; Lydia Knight (d. 1905) in 1860; Tamar J. Black in 1869; and Catherine Coles (d. 1879) in 1878. He had seventeen sons and five daughters. |
