Summary:Bowman worked for Britain's Ministry for Public Education. He spent thirty years abroad promoting educational reform, libraries, and educational development. This autobiography covers his early life and his working life. He began his service in Egypt from 1903 to 1911; in British colonial Sudan from 1911 to 1913; he spent WWI, from 1913 to 1918, in England; in Iraq from 1918 to 1920; and Palestine from 1920 to 1936. Contains firsthand information about the educational resources of these nations. The sources for the autobiography include the author's journal and a variety of scholarly sources, public and private letters and records, and other official documents. Also includes photographs of schools.
