The author has devoted a lifetime to learning and mastering the ways of the wilderness. Since the 1960s he has taught classes in outdoor survival at Brigham Young University as well as at numerous other locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. His approach is based on the idea that survival training is best achieved by learning to live off the land without using manufactured gear. His concepts have been proven by the more than 10,000 students who have successfully participated in his wilderness laboratories. This book, now in its fifth edition (substantially revised from the previous edition), is the outgrowth of a manual he originally prepared for his students. He instructs on constructing a shelter, starting and maintaining a fire, securing potable water, and identifying, harvesting, and preparing wild food plants. He also delves into how to hunt and trap animals for food, clothing, and tools. Index. --Fred Egloff
