In this series of meditations, Vogels, an Episcopal bishop, gives a sort of sermon on the theological concept of "real presence." His eucharistic theology is characteristically Anglican, connecting the sacrament with the full embodiment of God in the ordinary--specifically in the flesh of Jesus. The book is philosophically and theologically informed, but it is more devotional than scholarly. It may serve as a useful meditational guide for those reflecting on practical implications of theological reflection on God's presence in the world, particularly as that reflection has developed (and diverged) in traditions that affirm the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. --Steve Schroeder
