Description
Summary:At a time when mysticism was under attack for being too passive, Jean-Pierre de Caussade (1675-1751) did much to rescue the ideal of a disciplined spiritual life. He believed spirituality blossoms from the inner peace that is a result of becoming one with God. The Fire of Divine Love has all the eloquence of his Abandonment to Divine Providence & warmth & intimacy uniquely its own. This collection de Caussade's correspondence over many years contains his spiritual counsel to nuns & sisters. In these letters, de Caussade's spirit comes alive as nowhere else. Here he both instructs his readers in basic doctrine & also applies it to the urgencies of their lives. Throughout his letters, his central theme is the experience of personal & social peace, which is obtained by accepting the universal, redeeming work of the Creator, by taking up one's cross, & by a confidence in God's steadfast, eternal goodness.
