Comprising unpublished prose and recent criticism of the later work by such writers as Alfred Corn and Edward Mendelson, this is an invaluable book for Auden scholars and for anyone interested in the nature of 20th-century literature. The contents include unpublished letters from Auden to James and Tania Stern, a lecture on Freud, and a symposium on the frequently anthologized piece "In Praise of Limestone." There is also a fine memoir from Stella Musulin, "Auden in Kirchstetten," and an article on Randall Jarrell's relationship to Auden's work. This is a necessary volume for any college or research library. Highly recommended for upper-division undergraduates and above. D. A. Barton California State University, Long Beach
