In this unusually thorough introductory treatment of elementary particle physics at the beginning graduate level, Roe develops the important concepts of particle physics from basic concepts familiar to strong upper-division undergraduates, with the level of sophistication gradually increasing throughout. He also emphasizes the experimental foundation of the subject. Because the book is comprehensive and many arguments are presented briefly, it is best suited for those with some previous exposure to particle physics or with a strong background in related areas. Researchers will also find the text useful as a reference containing succinct discussions of key arguments and observations in particle physics, and as a source of leading references to the literature.
