The authors have underestimated the value and audience of this thoughtful and delightful text. Although intended for teachers in postsecondary schools, its content and nature are fully applicable to the entire spectrum of public education. The authors cite a core of values associated with the dignity of teaching: respect, motivation, safety, justice, and equity. These values, intertwined in the book's contextual framework, further demonstrate its appropriateness for cross-cultural groups. The values imply an element of morality associated with teaching. The book is comprehensive in scope and uses a vocabulary that enables readers to move easily between theory and practice. It is a veritable toolbox for classroom teachers and provides numerous situations and examples. The authors present extensive strategies and suggestions for implementation or problem solving. Examples are clear and practical and have been tried in the classroom setting. The references are current and plentiful. The book is both applicable in a multicultural setting and relevant for high need groups who may be affected by poverty. An excellent, practical classroom text for upper-division undergraduates and graduate students. J. V. Parker Jr.; Georgia Southern University
