Harvey, a historian by training who works as a consultant on urban social problems, has written and lectured on space exploration. There are now, in this era of Russian openness, many more details, documents, and interviews that serve to correct, update, and clarify the earlier work. In addition, there have been many developments in the Russian space program since 1988. This new edition of Harvey's Race into Space: The Soviet Space Programme (CH, Apr'89) is a useful work on the history of the Soviet and Russian space programs. It is nontechnical and suitable for general readers as well as undergraduates and two-year technical program students. A. M. Strauss Vanderbilt University
