Edited by Jack M. Guralnik, et al. Introduces the Women's Health and Aging Study (WHAS), a prospective, observational study of 1,002 women age 65 years and older who were moderately to severely disabled, but not severely cognitively impaired, at study entry. Presents comprehensive information on their physical disability; health status, including disease and physiologic measures; health care and service utilization; and their daily lives. Describes the representative population of women age 65 years and older from which the WHAS study population was drawn. Data were obtained from November 1992 to February 1995.
