Many of the published lists of resources on Native American health concerns have been produced by government agencies in the US and Canada (e.g., Indian Health Service, National Agricultural Library). This is the first book-length treatment of the topic as a whole and thus is a welcome addition to the bibliographic and research literature on Native Americans. Gray (SUNY Buffalo) has organized this bibliography by format, rather than trying to categorize native health. The 1,557 entries cover the literature from 1970 to the present and are divided into sections for bibliographies, electronic (including Internet) resources, print indexes and abstracts, books and book chapters, conference proceedings, dissertations/theses, audiovisuals, health organizations and libraries, health facilities and agencies, and health education programs in colleges and universities. An excellent introductory chapter treats concepts of Indian health and the role US and Canadian governmental health care services have played. The multidisciplinary coverage, the access provided to "fugitive" literature such as organization publications and book chapters, and the inclusion of the works of many Native authors are valuable contributions. Recommended for all Native American and health collections. C. E. Carter; University of New Mexico
