Impressive growth rates and economic transformations in Southeast Asian countries constitute another Asian economic miracle. In this set of conference papers, almost all Southeast Asian economies are surveyed in a country-per-chapter format; chapters on South Korea and Taiwan are also included. Contributors generally include historical material, a delineation of principle features of a country's economy, and descriptions of economic transformations. The Malaysia chapter discusses economic policies in terms of ethnic tensions, while the Indonesia chapter focuses on macroeconomics. For Thailand the emphasis is on the interaction of government and business and the role of markets in solving economic problems. Economic and financial reforms and the various sectors of the Myanmar economy are surveyed, and economic development in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia is also covered. Deforestation, democratization, trade, and investment flows are treated in separate chapters. The volume concludes with a summary of Southeast Asian economic experiences and a discussion of future prospects. An excellent resource for those seeking an introduction to economic transformations in Southeast Asia. All levels. B. F. Hope California State University, Chico
