Description
Summary:The Buffalo Canyon flora of 69 species, 18 MA old, from semiarid western Nevada, is a rich mixed conifer-hardwood forest with evergreen sclerophyll vegetation on bordering volcanic slopes. Precipitation totalled 100 centimeters and fell chiefly in summer; winter snow was light. Elevation was 1,280 meters, implying an uplift of 550 meters. Situated on windward slopes and at a higher elevation, this flora is more mesic than the nearby Eastgate-Middlegate floras.
