The Persian Gulf will most likely remain a critical region of the world for years to come. Its oil supplies and strategic location have given outsiders, especially the United States, a major stake in its stability. Coedited by Sick, executive director of the Gulf/2000 Project at Columbia University and a former staff member of the National Security Council and principal White House aide for Persian Gulf affairs, and Potter, deputy director of Gulf/2000, this collection of thought-provoking and informative essays provides an eclectic panorama of the region's sociopolitical and economic mosaic. The contributors, all prominent Gulf specialists, examine a range of topics that may affect domestic developments among the Gulf states and their foreign and security relations. Border disputes among the Gulf states as well as confidence-building measures are also discussed. Highly recommended for academic libraries and specialists in the field.Nader Entessar, Spring Hill Coll., Mobile, Ala. (c) Copyright 2010.
