Two data-packed volumes for prospective graduate students. Blum shows where some of the money to fund the grad-school venture can be found, with focus on private grants as well as some lesser-explored resources. He also offers insight into more specialized areas of study, such as loon research or arms control. There are plenty of listings appropriate for the average science and humanities major. Arranged generally by college curricula (business, engineering, etc.), this excellent guide cites each grant-giver's address, phone number, restrictions, deadlines, and amounts.Doughty's staple library reference is now in its sixth edition. It describes graduate schools and course work, naming more than 1,100 institutions throughout the U.S., and citing admission standards, tuition and housing costs, financial aid, degree requirements, and fields of study for each entry. The index lists participating institutions under general headings of the fields of study. ~--Denise Perry Donavin
