Raghaven states that his objective in writing this book is to "explain the progress achieved toward a molecular understanding of the reproductive process in angiosperms with particular emphasis on embryology." He succeeds admirably. The book is detailed, well researched, and well written, and underscores the dynamic nature of this field. The chapters follow a logical sequence from coverage of gametogenesis through pollination and fertilization, to units on zygotic and adventive embryogenesis. Though the author does give a historical perspective of the field, most of the information and the references detail recent developments in the area. There is a good balance between molecular data and the developmental/anatomical context for that data. The micrographs, photographs, and diagrams are clear and abundant. A valuable resource for graduate students and professionals. L. M. Baird; University of San Diego
