Users of de Zuane's first edition (CH, May'91) will find this new version valuable since it contains more current information. The inorganic and organic chemical, microbiological, and radionuclide parameters that define a potable water are presented individually. Topics covered for each parameter include chemistry, environmental exposure, standards, analysis, and removal. The topical coverage is not uniform for all parameters; factual information is presented almost in tabular form. A brief section discusses carcinogens related to drinking water. Additional chapters briefly cover water analysis, water treatment, public health and federal regulations; these regulations are continuously changing and, therefore, this chapter is already somewhat dated. The presentation level assumes some knowledge of public health and environmental science. Most appropriate for upper-division undergraduates and two-year technical program students. J. T. Pfeffer; emeritus, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
