Notes: | At head of title: State of New Jersey. Morris Canal and Banking Company. The company was chartered pursuant to an act of Legislature of December 31, 1824, "to form an artificial navigation between the Passaic and Delaware rivers"; in accordance with this act the Morris canal was built and was maintained by the company until 1922, when it was acquired by the state; in 1924 the Legislature authorized the discontinuance of the canal, and the work of dismantling was placed under the direction of the state Board of conservation and development acting as directors of the canal company.
