Description
Summary:Periodically revived in the 18th and 19th centuries, Rimpa art came to be regarded as quintessentially native Japanese - in contrast to Chinese-influenced schools - and regularly enjoyed imperial and aristocratic patronage. This catalogue of works from the collection of the Idemitsu Museum of Arts, features 70 pieces by all the leading exponents of the Rimpa style. These include screen and scroll paintings, calligraphy and decorated ceramics. All are illustrated in colour and brief bibliographies of each artist are included.
