Summary:The first volume, after a prologue in which the origins and early development of mounted warfare are discussed, including the Waterloo Campaign of 1815, covers the period from 1816-1850. During this period, the Cavalry were chiefly in action in India, fighting in a number of wars from the Nepal War, through to the First Afghan and First and Second Sikh Wars.
