About 25.000 terms and expressions were selected, based on a profound study of the most important internationally accepted trade terminology (such as Incoterms) and base documents (like important treaties, agreements, protocols, generally accepted trade rules, recommendations, reports ...). This dictionary also includes relevant legal terms, the so called 'lex mercatoria' (principles of international trade law) and numerous terms and expressions for general use. Specific attention is given to the following areas: the sale and buy of good and services, customs ('trade data elements', OESO custom terminology), land and sea transport, air transport, finance, insurance, accounting, protection of industrial property, settlements of conflicts (conciliation and arbitration), transfer of technology, commercial intermediaries (agent, correspondent, distributor etc.). The English language was chosen as the source language for the dictionary. In order to increase the dictionary's utility most terms are presented in different contexts. The terms are presented in a well-organised vertical structure. For easy reference clear registers of the French, German, Spanish and Dutch languages are included. |
