Description
Summary:Fiscal incentives can encourage firms to invest in environmentally better technologies and households to adopt environmentally responsible behaviours. These are some of the possibilities embraced by the concept of greening taxes. 'Greening taxes' refers to any use of environmental taxes to further sustainable economic development. Greening Taxes: The Dutch Model provides an overview of the Netherlands' policies aimed at incorporating environmental elements into the tax system and of the analyses carried out for that purpose. The Netherlands has already done a great deal to green the tax system. New proposals formulated in the White Paper 'taxes in the 21st Century' will make the Netherlands' tax system even greener still. The authors of this book have made important contributions to green tax policies in the Netherlands. Their unique account of Dutch experiences with greening taxes will inform fiscal environmental policies elsewhere in the world, making this a must-read work for policymakers and others interested in the practical furtherance of environmental objectives.
