The recent rapid growth of the Internet and of PC technology confronts users with overwhelming numbers of acronyms and complex technical terms when they try to upgrade their computers, connect to the Internet, or create their own Web pages. Collin, author of several guides about the Internet, has compiled a comprehensive illustrated dictionary covering all aspects of computing and Internet technology. It clearly defines more than 1,600 terms and standards in the fields of PC hardware, software, the Internet, and Web page design, and describes features of the Microsoft Windows 95 operating system. The acronyms and terms in the dictionary are listed alphabetically, providing cross-references to related terms (e.g., the entry for "directory" refers to "folder" and "rules" and vice versa). An appendix lists html tags, facilitating Web page construction. The dictionary is ideal for readers new to the personal computing field and the Internet, but considering the speed at which the Internet and PC technology are evolving, it may need to be updated frequently. Similar works include Whatis.com , Betty Shulman's Beginner's Illustrated Internet Dictionary: From A to Zine (1997), and Douglas Downing et al.'s Dictionary of Computer and Internet Terms (1996).
