Description
Summary:This publication presents for the first time the results of the work carried out in Alexandria by the Insitut Europeen d'Archeologie Sous-Marine. The first topographical surveys made in 1992 through to the archaeological campaigns of 1996 and 1997 are reported and analysed in detail, determining the ancient topography of the Ptolemaic harbour and the city of Cleopatra. Discussed in length are the problems of ancient harbour installations and observations on the enigmas posed by the fields of submerged ruins are made. In particular the epigraphy and study of the pharaonica and comparisons with the texts of ancient writers together with the study of statuary are found within this work.
