Summary: | This second edition of a pioneering, but now rare and out-of-print work on hypertension in pregnancy employs several chapter authors (19 in all) to approach the topics at hand, each chapter being coauthored by one of the three editors. The eponymous doctor's participation in this update of his work has been minimal; indeed, only one chapter of his original text, consisting of an historical overview, has been retained in the present volume. However, an editorial introduction to each chapter compares it to the coverage of the relevant material in the first edition. Among the topics addressed are cardiovascular adaptation to normal pregnancy, and the clinical spectrum, pathology, pathophysiology, etiology, prevention, and management of preeclampsia.
