Summary:	John Thomas Gilbert was born in Dublin on 23 January 1829, and died on 23 May 1898. A noted book-collector, librarian, historian and archivist, Gilbert is remembered for his History of the Citry of Dublin and the Calendar of Ancient Records of Dublin. In the centenary year of his death, Dublin Corporation Public Libraries and Dublin City Archives, celebrated his achievements with a programme of lectures, exhibition and publications. This centenary celebration volume contains the papers and lectures delivered during the year.
