Description
Summary:This work does a masterful job of delineating the major surgical diseases that affect newborn infants, including general, noncardiac thoracic, abdominal, urinary and neurologic conditions. It covers all phases of care with special attention given to details of operations to correct these defects and the unique aspects of critical care that often differ significantly from more common neonatal respiratory conditions.
The recognition and treatment of complications that may arise from these conditions and their treatment is particularly emphasized, giving this book a valuable component simply not found elsewhere. Textbooks of pediatric surgery typically cover surgical conditions in a more limited fashion, and typically ignore such clinically practical details as prenatal diagnosis and pre- and post-operative care. The authors also consistently present relevant data regarding embryology, anatomy and physiology to assist understanding of disease origins and consequences.
