Summary:The ongoing Community Tracking Study, conducted by the nonpartisan Center for Studying Health System Change in Washington, DC with which the editors are affiliated, tracks healthcare system changes in representative US cities. Six chapters by HSC staff and others examine market development trends nationwide: e.g., the retreat from managed care; the impact of hospital mergers on local communities; Medicaid's evolution; and the political construction of managed care regulation.
