Billington (emer., Univ. of the West of England) presents many arguments for his personal belief that God does not exist and never has existed. He explicitly rejects the metaphysical views that support theism, deism, pantheism, polytheism, and panentheism; he also rejects the ontological, teleological, cosmological, and moral arguments for the existence of God. He points out that Buddhism, Hinduism, and Confucianism are not deisms, and he mentions in passing that those who believe in the reality of God are not in agreement as to the nature of God. Billington's book, which is very easy to comprehend, will interest three types of readers--those who are in agreement with his atheism; those who are undecided as to whether or not they believe there is a God; and those who believe in the reality of God. Recommended for general readers through faculty and professionals. M. C. Rose emeritus, Goucher College
