An up-to-date revision of the earlier Beagle Diary edited by Nora Barlow and published in 1933 (Charles Darwin's Diary of the Voyage of H.M.S. Beagle). This diary reiterates the five-year Beagle voyage made to complete a survey of the southern coasts of South America and to sail completely around the earth. This new edition contains much material that has not appeared before, and a new introduction has been added. A small number of unimportant errors in Nora Barlow's earlier edition have also been corrected. The editor of this revision, Richard Darwin Keynes of the University of Cambridge and a godson of Nora Barlow, has generally kept Darwin's erratic punctuation and strange spelling and has respected his original paragraphing and corrections in his final text. The book is written for students of Darwin and belongs in all college and public libraries. -J. M. Carpenter, University of Kentucky
