Flowers's book is both timely in content and useful as a research tool. In four parts consisting of 15 chapters, the author explores the various theories of juvenile criminality, the juvenile court system, and prevention of violent juvenile criminality. An especially interesting feature is the inclusion of extensive graphs, charts, and tables documenting the content of each chapter. Because children are entering the adult criminal justice system today in far greater numbers than in preceding years, Flowers's discussion of some of the myriad causes of juvenile violent, stranger-to-stranger, and acquaintance criminality is most revealing. In the preface, the author notes that "the dynamics of youthful antisocial behavior remain in place in our society and continue to influence and affect juvenile delinquency and criminality." This book updates the information on these phenomena and provides readers with statistical findings that can be employed in public choice decisions by policy makers. ^BSumming Up: Recommended.
