This excellent source for recent archaeological work in New England serves as an example of innovative analyses of prehistoric data. The chapters are presented in three sections covering coastal archaeology, lithic analysis, and ceramic analysis. The book is in honor of the late Barbara Luedtke, a well-respected archaeologist of the region whose contributions were in those three areas of study. The first section features primary site reports and overviews of coastal settlements, including an interesting chapter with interpretive assessments of the diversity of marine shells in these sites. The lithics analysis section includes studies of sources of stone used in tools and implications of trade and territoriality in the past. The ceramics chapters offer similar insights about trade and population movement and symbolism from the analysis of pottery. ^BSumming Up: Recommended. Upper-division undergraduates and above. W. A.
