Polyanin and Zaitsev offer this very large encyclopedia of exact solutions to more than 1,600 nonlinear mathematical physics equations and nonlinear partial differential equations. Nonlinear equations of parabolic, hyperbolic, elliptic, mixed, and general types of second- and higher-order are treated; first-order nonlinear equations are not considered. Exact solutions are provided for equations treating such applications as heat and mass transfer, wave theory, nonlinear mechanics, hydrodynamics, gas dynamics, plasticity theory, nonlinear acoustics, combustion theory, nonlinear optics, theoretical physics, differential geometry, control theory, chemical engineering sciences, biology, and other areas. The format is exceptionally well organized and clear: the form of the equation is followed by its exact solutions. In many instances references to fuller treatments are noted. It is an easy process to locate the equation of interest. Obvious care has been taken to minimize errors. In the supplements, exact analytical solution techniques for solving nonlinear mathematical physics equations are provided. This handbook follows in the CRC tradition of presenting a complete and usable reference. Good index. A valuable reference work for anyone working with nonlinear partial differential equations. ^BSumming Up: Recommended. Upper-division undergraduates through professionals. J. H.
