Well written, properly documented, and containing necessary statistics and bibliographies, the ten papers in this anthology were originally presented at a late 2001 conference on Latin American democracies. The collection deals with four broad policy domains--economic integration, financial instability, human capital, and democratic governance in Latin America. The papers contain valuable discussion on the effects of economic reforms introduced as a result of recommendations by various multilateral organizations. Although the above four themes seem very different from each other, the editor's comprehensive introduction provides the necessary links among them. Contributors are well known in their respective fields. This volume will be useful for graduate students and policy makers in the field of Latin American studies in general and economic integration and globalization in particular. ^BSumming Up: Recommended.
