Summary: | After spending two years in Brazil, Darius Milhaud returned to his native Paris in 1919 and wrote the enchanting, nostalgic suite Saudades do Brazil. Twelve unique and delightful pieces, each named after a district of Rio de Janeiro, combine the flavor of Brazilian popular music with the composer's trademark polytonal harmonies. This original compilation of works from authoritative early editions also features Suite, Op. 8; Sonata No. 1, Op. 33; Printemps, Opp. 25 & 66; Caramel Mou, Op. 68; and "Tango des Fratellini," a piano arrangement of a theme from Le Boeuf sur le Toit ("The Ox on the Roof"), the sprightly medley of tangos and maxixes Milhaud wrote as a score for an imaginary Chaplin film.
