Skjoldal has edited a comprehensive book that deals with various aspects of the Norwegian Sea, including the currents; phytoplankton and zooplankton; ecologically and economically important fish such as herring, blue whiting, and mackerel; cephalopods; the role of climate variability in determining the ecosystem variability; and fisheries management. The well-written, thoroughly referenced chapters by highly qualified scientists offer exceptional graphics and pictorial depictions. Logically arranged, each part details complex interactions between physical, chemical, geological, and biological factors. Written in language that is easy to understand, each comprehensive chapter is an excellent source of information related to the complex interactions that happen in a sea. Although the examples are from the Norwegian Sea, the concepts are broadly applicable to any marine ecosystem. This book is an excellent resource for any student, practitioner, or scientist in the field of biological oceanography. It is a must-have volume for oceanographers. Kudos to the authors and the editor for an exceptional book! ^BSumming Up: Highly recommended. Lower-level undergraduates and above. A. K. Volety Florida Gulf Coast University
