This comprehensive reference presents extensive business as well as other general information about China. Organized in seven parts and with more than 30 appendixes, this new edition (1st ed., 1994, CH, Feb'95) completely updates information in the previous edition and takes into account China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO, December 2001) and recent major political leadership changes. (The book was completed before the SARS medical event and impact, however.) While the numerical information reported (2002 or 2001 latest year) does not reflect WTO membership, this volume does present excellent analysis of WTO's probable impact on China. Topics addressed in various sections include market entry and business development, economic performance, banking, foreign direct investment, major industry sectors, government structure, consumer markets, state-owned enterprises, taxation/accounting practices, intellectual property, and local/regional areas. The volume contains many short sections (mainly under ten pages) of narrative information and implications related to China's full WTO status. It also contains more than 100 pages of useful names, addresses, and phone/fax contact information. Excellent for anyone considering business with China. ^BSumming Up: Recommended.
