Summary: | The Parthian & Middle Persian languages were spoken in pre- Islamic Iran during the Parthian & Sasanian periods (c. 250 B.C.-A.D. 641). They are preserved in several literatures & on artifacts & documents such as coins, seals, ostraca, monumental inscriptions, & papyri. This grammar organizes, illustrates, & compares the basic morphological & syntactic features of the two languages. Major diachronic changes & dialect variations are also pointed out. Two appendixes discuss related topics in Manichaean texts & Sasanian inscriptions. |
