The size and scope of this volume might be intimidating, but even the casual reader will be captivated by Seinfeld and Pandis's engaging mix of information and interpretation. After reading the carefully crafted description in the early chapters of the atmosphere and its chemical behavior, many readers will be motivated to plow into the more specialized chapters that systematically explore dynamic interactions of Earth's envelope of air. Although the physical and theoretical aspects of atmospheric chemistry and physics dominate this rigorous book, there is no sharp dividing line between applications and mathematical relationships. The subtitle could be described as an underlying theme that reflects human interest in pollution and global warming, but this description only adds unity to an all-purpose resource book that is attractively presented but a bit heavy to carry! Still, this book should be available to all beginning students, researchers, and research directors. All levels. R. M. Ferguson; Eastern Connecticut State University
