Review by Library Journal Review

Ingmar Bergman's medieval revenge tale deals with a pair of goatherds who rape and murder an innocent farm girl only to seek shelter unwittingly from their victim's parents. Max von Sydow is towering as the aggrieved father consumed with vengeance despite his religious rectitude. Extras include an introduction by director Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain), who singles out the classic film (presented in a pristine transfer) for its influence on him. For serious collections.
