Acorn, a native Albertan, offers a series of single-page essays, each with its own full-page illustration. He features 80 of the most noteworthy fossils, their locations, and fossil hunters, all from Alberta, Canada. The book was prepared with help from Canadian paleontologists and the renowned Royal Tyrrell Museum. This reviewer is reminded of the nature movies on television that move seemingly endlessly, randomly, through little tidbits of natural science, but without a scientific viewpoint. Some people's vision of heaven, perhaps. And, sure enough, the text is an adaptation of a radio broadcast series focused on fossils from Alberta. This will be a fine addition to the museum gift shop market, but it is not suitable for academic library collections. Summing Up: Optional. General readers. P. K. Strother Boston College
