Respected editor/compiler Ernst has produced a needed addition to the mass of technical dictionaries. This two-volume work covers a wide variety of technologies including computer engineering, nuclear engineering, and robotics-areas in which it has been difficult to find good aids for French translation. Entry format remains the same as in Ernst's other works (cf. Dictionary of Engineering and Technology, 4th ed., 1980). Easily accessible to all users, the entries and subentries are nested in alphabetical order, and printed in boldface with translation immediately following. French translations provide gender (m or f) and English translations include verb type (vi or vt), singular, plural, etc. Abbreviations, listed on an attached bookmark, identify the pertinent industry or technology. ``Franglais'' terms are listed where needed along with the preferred French. In Volume 1 an article in French on the characteristics of written technical French is interesting in its insights, although not crucial to the use of the dictionary. The binding and cover are sturdy; the paper is good. Recommended to larger academic libraries and those libraries serving strong science and engineering or language programs. For libraries needing only an English-French dictionary, A.F. Dorian's Dictionary of Science and Technology (CH, Jun '80) is a less expensive choice.-V.E. Dow, Lehigh University
