A committee project from the Sociologists for Women in Society, this volume addresses the needs of all college and university faculty, male and female, on techniques they may use in getting published. Although each chapter is by a different author, the editor has linked them together well. As the authors are themselves scholars in the social sciences, the chapters on writing and publishing journal articles, scholarly monographs, and textbooks complement Carolyn J. Mullins's A Guide to Writing and Publishing in the Social and Behavioral Sciences (CH, Jul '78). The volume also considers the social context for scholarly writing-the transition from graduate student to publishing scholar, time allocation for research and writing, the use of writing support groups, and research productivity throughout one's professional career. Because of its emphasis on the woman scholar, the volume is a good addition to women's studies collections and is also a helpful guide for graduate students and younger faculty members. Both undergraduate and graduate libraries will have calls for this.-R.D. Johnson, SUNY College at Oneonta
